Freshness, Explained

Packaging Process — Video Coming Soon
Five steps. Zero shortcuts. The same rigorous process, every single time.
Your order is cut and prepared by our butchers on the day it is packed and dispatched — never in advance. The meat going into your box is as fresh as it gets: straight from the butcher's block to packaging within minutes.
Every cut is individually vacuum-sealed in food-grade bags. This removes all air, locking in freshness and natural flavour, preventing cross-contamination, and extending shelf life to up to 6 days in the fridge or 12 months in the freezer. No freezer burn. No oxidisation.
Each vacuum-sealed item is placed inside a food-safe protective sleeve before being packed. Cleaner and more professional than conventional alternatives, it also acts as a tamper-evident layer — so you'll always know your order arrived exactly as packed.
We use ice gel packs — not loose ice. Gel packs are specifically designed to absorb heat rather than simply melt away, maintaining a consistent, controlled temperature throughout transit with no water mess. Placed strategically around your order, they work alongside the Woolcool® lining to keep everything at the optimal chilled temperature from the moment we seal the box.
The box is lined with our Woolcool® natural wool insulation — the final and most important layer of protection. Securely sealed and handed to our courier partners. From this point, your order is fully protected for up to 72 hours, regardless of external temperatures or transit delays.
We don't use polystyrene. We don't use synthetic foam.
We use Woolcool® — the world's original sustainable insulated packaging, made from 100% pure natural wool. Pioneered over two decades ago and trusted by food and pharmaceutical businesses across the UK and beyond. It's not just packaging — it's science working with nature.
Common questions about freshness, packaging, and arrival.
Yes, completely. A melted gel pack is not a sign that something has gone wrong — it's actually a sign the packaging is working exactly as intended. Gel packs melt in order to absorb heat from inside the box. As long as your order arrives within the 72-hour window and the box has remained sealed, your meat is perfectly safe and chilled.
Your order will remain safely chilled for up to 72 hours from the time of dispatch. If you're not home, you don't need to rush — your order will be waiting in perfect condition. We always recommend refrigerating or freezing as soon as you're back.
Loose ice melts into water, which can pool at the bottom of the box and create mess when opened. Gel packs deliver the same temperature control without any of those downsides — no water, no mess, and a more consistent, longer-lasting chill throughout transit.
Absolutely. The Woolcool® wool liner can be composted in your garden, used as plant insulation, or recycled through standard household recycling. It's 100% natural and leaves no harmful residue. The outer cardboard box is fully recyclable too.
Yes — all our vacuum-sealed bags are food-grade and freezer-safe. Place them directly into your freezer without any additional wrapping. Vacuum sealing prevents freezer burn and preserves quality and texture for up to 12 months.
