Halal Turkey

Turkey wings and legs are slow-cook cuts, not quick-roast ones. Both carry more connective tissue than breast meat, so they reward a covered roast or braise at around 160C for two hours or more, until the meat pulls back from the bone. Our 3-joint wings come whole, halved or diced and in 1kg, 2kg and 4kg packs, and legs and drumsticks can be ordered skin on or skin off. Use a probe and cook thoroughly.

Yes, we sell halal smoked turkey in two forms: our smoked 3-joint turkey wings, and Zaad Sliced Smoked Turkey Rashers in a 130g pack for sandwich slices. The wings come already smoked, so they carry that smoke into soups, greens and rice dishes; cook them through as you would any raw wing. The rashers are a branded deli line we stock. A smoked turkey breast is not part of the range.

Our whole turkey crown on the bone runs 5.5kg to 7kg, which as a rough guide feeds a large gathering at the usual allowance of about 500g of bone-in turkey a head. If you want less, or breast meat without the bone, the boneless crown comes in 1kg, 2kg and 4kg packs, cut whole, diced or minced. Order early for a fixed date; nationwide delivery dates can be picked up to a month ahead.

Yes, turkey can be halal. Turkey is a permitted bird, and it is halal when it meets Islamic dietary requirements and is certified on that basis. We buy only non-stunned halal meat. Our turkey reaches you through third-party halal-certified suppliers to Noori Halal Ltd, the parent company behind Onlinemeatshop, a family butcher trading in East London since 1993. Supplier certificates are published at /pages/halal-certificate and the roster rotates every few months, so check there.

Turkey ships on three routes and nationwide dates can be chosen up to one month in advance, which matters for a Christmas or Eid bird. Nationwide orders travel by tracked DPD, delivering Tuesday to Saturday. Inside East London we run our own vans, Monday to Saturday, and East Ham handles pickup for online orders between 12:00 and 18:00. Every order is packed with ice gel packs holding 0-4C for up to 72 hours in transit.

Give a 5.5kg to 7kg whole crown two days in the fridge to thaw, and never thaw it on the counter. Frozen on the day it lands, turkey holds for up to 12 months, and the vacuum seal is freezer-safe so nothing needs rewrapping. Unfrozen, it keeps up to 6 days in the fridge from arrival. Cook it thoroughly and rest it before carving.
