Dry Fruits, Dates & Nuts Buying Guide & Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our certified Halal butcher cuts, chilled packaging, and delivery.

Which dates do you sell and how do they differ?

Medjool is the large, soft, caramel date: Sofra Palestinian medjool and Safa Palestinian medjoul, both 900g. Khudri, spelt khudari or khidri on the packs, is the everyday Saudi date, firmer and less sweet: Al Barakah khudri, Madinah Delight khudri and Ajwashire khidri. Madinah Delight golden dates are the pale, honeyed kind; Iranian soft dates are small, dark and very sweet; and zahidi dried dates are the firm ones for chopping into desserts.

Do you sell ajwa dates?

Not at the moment. The closest we list are the Saudi khudri dates, Al Barakah and Madinah Delight, and the Ajwashire khidri dates, which despite the brand name are khidri, not ajwa. If you want the softest date for breaking a fast, the Palestinian medjool is the one. Ask us through the contact page if you would like ajwa stocked, and we will look at it.

Which nuts do you stock?

The TRS bags: almonds 750g, cashew kernels and broken cashews for grinding into a korma or chicken white karahi base, pistachio kernels for kheer and kulfi, red and pink peanuts, and golden sultanas for pilau and zarda. From Sofra there are Pakistani pine nuts and roasted salted cashews ready to eat.

What are the seeds and snacks on this page?

The things that go in a bowl when guests arrive: salted pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, super melon seeds, roasted yellow chickpeas and the Humis butter almond and butter pistachio squares. TRS tapioca, or sabudana, is listed here for kheer and sabudana khichdi. Biscuits, rusks and wafers are on the bakery pages.

How do dates and nuts travel with a meat order?

In the same Woolcool insulated box as the fresh halal meat, by DPD, Tuesday to Saturday: dispatched the next working day and delivered the day after. Boxes of dates and bags of nuts are ambient, so they ride beside the meat and the ice packs. Delivery is 6.99 under 60 pounds and free from 60 pounds, with a 15 pound minimum order. For Ramadan, a box of medjool dates, a bag of chana dal for haleem and the lamb for the main dish make one order; the pulses are on the lentils and grains page.
