Halal Chicken Wings, Nuggets & Strips Buying Guide & Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our certified Halal butcher cuts, chilled packaging, and delivery.

Are chicken wings halal?

A chicken wing is halal or not according to how the bird was slaughtered, so the answer sits with the supplier rather than with the cut. Every fresh and marinated halal wing on this page is non-stunned, bought by Noori Halal Ltd from halal-certified suppliers whose certificates are published on our halal certificate page. That covers the 3 joint wings, prime drumlet wings and the marinated nibblet wings alike, and the same sourcing runs through the whole halal chicken range. The branded frozen lines are third-party products rather than our own butchery, so the halal chicken nuggets, strips and goujons on this page each carry their own halal certification printed on the pack.

How are the wings split - flats, drumlets or whole?

Into separate products, one per section, rather than one mixed pack. Flat wings are the mid section on its own, prime drumlet wings are the drumette on its own, and chicken 3 joint wings are whole chicken wings with all three sections still attached. Each of those runs from 500g to 10kg, so you can order one section only in any quantity. If you would rather have them seasoned, the marinated flat wings and the marinated nibblet wings work the same way. Bone-in chicken parts beyond the wing sit on our chicken parts page, and the rest of the marinated halal chicken has a page of its own.

How long do chicken wings take in the oven?

Plain fresh halal chicken wings take about 40 to 45 minutes at 200C, turned once, and they are ready when the skin has coloured and the juices run clear at the joint. Chicken 3 joint wings want the longer end of that, because they keep all three sections; the single-section cuts come out a little sooner. Marinated wings behave the same way, though a Tandoori or Tikka marinade darkens earlier, so start checking at 35 minutes. These times are for the fresh and marinated wings only. The branded frozen lines, the battered chicken nuggets among them, are cooked from frozen and are not covered by them.

How long do chicken wings and goujons take in an air fryer?

Wings need around 20 to 25 minutes at 190C, shaken once halfway, which beats the oven because the basket moves hot air across every surface. Load it in a single layer and the size of the piece decides the fit: the single-section cuts lie flat, while chicken 3 joint wings need more room and a few more minutes. Marinated wings colour faster, so look at them from 18 minutes. Goujons are strips of chicken in a breadcrumb coating, and they behave differently: the frozen coated lines - battered chicken nuggets, chicken goujons and popcorn chicken - go in straight from frozen, in one layer, and take longer than the same weight of fresh wing.

What do you serve with chicken wings?

Wings are finger food, so the plate around them carries the meal: fries or wedges, a slaw, corn, flatbreads and a dip or two. Feeding a crowd works better with mixed textures than with more of one thing, so a tray of 3 joint wings next to battered chicken nuggets and chicken goujons gives people a choice, and chicken bites or popcorn chicken suit smaller hands. For a sit-down version, marinated wings in Peri-Peri or Tandoori hold the middle of the table, and if you are building a barbecue instead, our halal burgers and sausages page carries the branded frozen grills. Keep any sauce on the side so the skin stays crisp. Ordering for a set date is straightforward: everything on this page travels nationwide with DPD, Tuesday to Saturday after next-working-day dispatch, we deliver across East London on our own vans, and East Ham takes pickup between 12:00 and 18:00.

Can you cook chicken goujons from frozen, and how do they arrive?

Yes - the branded frozen lines are built to be cooked from frozen, and they arrive frozen. Chicken goujons are strips of chicken in a breadcrumb coating; battered chicken nuggets, popcorn chicken and chicken bites are the same idea in other shapes, each in a 1kg bag. They ship frozen in the same insulated box as our fresh meat, so move them to the freezer as soon as they arrive and keep them frozen until you cook them. Do not thaw them first - straight from the freezer into a hot oven or air fryer is what the coating is made for.
