Halal Venison

100% Non-Stunned Halal UK Grass-Fed Pastures Chilled 48h Woolcool Delivery

Halal venison is deer meat: dark red, close-grained and deeper in flavour than beef, and every cut here is Certified Halal and cut to order on the day of dispatch. The whole venison leg comes as 450-500g steaks, diced for a curry or in 160-180g chunks for a stew, and a rolled venison leg, boneless or bone-in, roasts whole at 1.2-1.5kg. For the pan there are venison shoulder steaks and Henry steaks in 225-250g, 450-500g or 650-750g sizes, and venison mince at 15% fat for burgers, koftas and a slow ragu. Pick fat on or fat off, then a pack weight from 500g to 4kg. Venison sits in our halal poultry and game range with turkey, duck and rabbit.

Halal Venison Buying Guide & Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our certified Halal butcher cuts, chilled packaging, and delivery.

Is venison halal?

Yes, when the deer is slaughtered according to Islamic rules, and ours is. Venison is simply deer meat, and deer are permitted animals, so the question is how the animal was slaughtered and handled. Every venison cut on this page is Certified Halal, prepared by our own butchers and sold alongside our other halal poultry and game. The certificates that cover our meat are on the halal certification page.

Which halal venison cuts do you sell?

Six cuts, all from the leg and shoulder. The whole venison leg can be cut into steaks, diced or chunked; the rolled venison leg and the bone-in rolled leg are 1.2-1.5kg roasting joints; shoulder steaks and Henry steaks come in three steak sizes; and venison mince is ground at 15% fat. Each product page carries the cutting and fat options, and packs run from 500g to 4kg.

How do you cook venison steaks?

Hot and fast, then rest. Venison carries very little fat, so a 225-250g shoulder steak or Henry steak wants a very hot pan with a little oil, two to three minutes a side for medium-rare, and five minutes resting before you slice it. Cooked past medium it turns dry and chewy. The thicker 450-500g and 650-750g steaks are better seared and then finished in a hot oven. The rolled leg roasts like a small joint of beef and is served pink.

What can I make with venison mince?

Anything you make with beef mince, with a deeper flavour. Our venison mince is ground at 15% fat, enough to keep burgers and koftas juicy on the grill, and it works in a chilli, a bolognese or a shepherd's pie without any change to the recipe. Packs run 500g, 1kg, 2kg and 4kg. If you want a milder option, the beef mince page lists grinds from 5% to 30% fat, and lamb mince is on its own page.
