Pack sizes
This mince is 100% Fresh Halal Goat Meat, nothing else added. It's sold in 500g, 1kg, 2kg and 4kg packs.
Is goat mince the same as mutton?
No — goat mince is milder and drier-eating than mutton mince, suiting slow, wet cooking more than a quick fry. It's produced in the UK, in packs from 500g to 4kg.
How to cook it
Defrost frozen mince in the fridge for around 12 hours before cooking, then brown it well — goat needs longer over heat than beef mince. Swap it into a cottage-pie-style bake instead of a Sunday roast. Butcher's tip: break the mince up small so it browns evenly.
Choose your pack by the meal: the 500g pack suits a single family curry or bake, the 1kg and 2kg packs cover bigger batches or meal prep, and the 4kg pack is built for caterers or freezer stocking.
Keep it frozen until you're ready to cook, then defrost in the fridge for around 12 hours before use. Cook it promptly once defrosted, and avoid refreezing raw mince. If you're not using it straight away, freeze it on the day it arrives.
Goat mince works well in kofta kebabs, keema-style curries and spiced meatballs, and it suits South Asian and Middle Eastern dishes where mince is simmered with spice rather than grilled whole. It also makes a good cottage-pie-style bake, a change from a traditional roast dinner.
Spiced goat koftas: shape the mince onto skewers with warming spices, then grill or pan-fry until browned.
Goat mince curry: brown the mince first, then simmer low and slow in a spiced sauce until tender.
Cottage-pie-style bake: cook the mince with vegetables and top with mash for an oven-baked alternative to a roast dinner.
How much goat mince should I order per person?
It depends on the recipe: curries and koftas use less mince per head than a hearty bake, so think about the dish before the pack. The 500g pack suits a single family meal, while the larger packs are there for bigger batches.
Which pack size suits a family meal?
The 1kg or 2kg pack is usually the practical choice for a family-sized curry or bake, leaving enough for seconds or a second meal.
Is the 500g pack enough for one dish?
Yes, for a single curry, kofta batch or bake it's a sensible amount, and you can size up to 1kg or 2kg if you're cooking for more people.
Should I buy the 4kg pack for freezing?
The 4kg pack is aimed at batch cooking or catering; portion it into smaller amounts before freezing, then defrost each portion in the fridge for around 12 hours before you cook it.
